First Steps Childcare & Crèche Services

First Steps supply childcare staff to nurseries and deliver crèches across Merseyside in childcare settings and children’s centres.

We are looking for quality, motivated sessional Level 3 Childcare Workers/Crèche Leaders and Level 2 Crèche Assistants to join our bank of workers.

To be a Level 3 Childcare Worker or Crèche Leader you must have a Level 3 in a childcare qualification and good experience working with children in childcare settings.

To be a Crèche Assistant, you must have at least a level 2 and some experience.

Level 3 Childcare Workers/Crèche Leaders are paid £9.00 per hour; Assistants paid £8.21 per hour (from 1st April 2019).  In addition, an annual leave allowance is paid on top of this.

If successful, you will be placed on a bank of workers and undertake work as required.

Appointment is subject to DBS (which crèche workers are required to pay £25 – half of the total cost – for if provisionally appointed after interview; this is returned after completing at least 25 hours of work) and two references. However, if you are registered for the DBS Update Service and it is up-to-date, we will not need to conduct a DBS, and so therefore there is no charge, but you will need to supply your DBS Update Service Number.

Please note the Crèche Leader job description is the one to refer to for all level 3 applicants.

Sessional Vacancies – Now Open

As highlighted above, these are some of the positions we require for our bank of staff for shorter-term work placements. These may typically be a few days or a couple of weeks:

The application process for sessional workers is as follows:

  • Apply below using the online application form. Please note we do NOT accept CVs.
  • If you’re wishing to go onto the bank for more than one vacancy, please complete one form per position.
  • Please use the person specification for each position to show your ability to undertake the position.  These are sent to children’s centres, so it is really important to highlight your skills, experience, and why you would be able to undertake the job.
  • We will view all applications at least once a month.  We will then invite those to interview as appropriate.
  • At interview, we will check your certificates and take copies of evidence for DBS.  There is a charge of £60 for undertaking the DBS for sessional staff.  This is collected at interview. It is returned after completing six weeks overall of paid work.
  • After interview we run the DBS check and take up references.
  • As soon as these are completed, we will issue you an offer letter via e-mail and you will be placed on our bank.
  • Throughout, please check your spam folders as well as your inbox in your e-mail account.
