First Steps supplies quality staff for children’s centres, schools and community organisations.
Our staff work predominantly, although not exclusively, in services run by children’s centres and others, for children aged under 5 and their families. Our aim is that these staff add value to the vital work undertaken by children’s centres and other organisations.
We strive to provide a quality, competitive service which meets the needs of centres and others and work within the Early Years Stage Foundation.
We seek to adhere to and encourage equality of opportunity and diversity in our work and how we operate.
We also provide programme management, and consultancy, learning and other associated services.

A number of staffing options are available for children’s centres, schools and other organisations. The service is often one for a fixed-term number of hours over a fixed-time period rather than emergency cover. It aims to add value and provides children’s centres and others with a way of obtaining additional resources which are additional to core staff.
The following positions are ones centres currently or are likely to utilise:
Early Years/Childcare Practitioners
Crèche Activity Workers
Dads/Male Carers Support Workers
Family Support Workers
Behaviour Support Workers (in schools for children aged 4-11)
We can work with centres on other options they may wish to explore.
We can also provide staffing for long-term sickness/maternity cover for core and other staff members.
We can work with centres together on recruitment or do it this on their behalf. All new staff are subject to an application process and interview, enhanced DBS disclosure and two references.
If you are a children’s centre, school or other organisation, and you are interested in this service, please contact Ian on 0151 665 0160 or complete the form on the contact page.

This may include:
Volunteer programme management
Employability programme management
Specific issues (e.g. a health project) programme management
Crèche operation management
